Venue type Harpa is a newly built gem in the heart of Reykjavik, Iceland. Within its walls are outstanding facilities for conventions with accompanying trade shows, conferences, meetings and cultural events such as concerts. Harpa's striking facade draws its inspira- tion from crystallised basalt columns commonly found in Icelandic nature and was designed by Olafur Eliasson a renowned artist, Henning Larsen Architects and Batteríið Architects. The facade reflects the city life and the different light composed by the movements of the sun and varying weather. At night the glass bricks are lit up by different coloured LED lights. Harpa has the relaxed and intimate atmosphere that one gets in a small town combined with STATE OF THE ART TECHNOLOGY in all areas of functions within the building. Four main halls and several meeting rooms offer some of the most technologically advanced equipment available. In addition to that Harpa has spacious reception and exhibition areas that can be used for a variety of happenings. "In a nutshell Harpa is a 31,000 square-meters beautiful venue located in Reykjavik´s harbour with stunning views suitable to accommodate everything from large conventions, concerts and exhibitions to smaller banquets and meetings" Since opening its doors in May 2011 Harpa Concert Hall and Conference Centre is believed to be the MOST ECO-FRIENDLY conference centre in the world. The building was designed to use mostly natural light through the glass facade which covers three of the four sides resulting in significant reduction in power consumption. All those who were chosen to operate within Harpa have sustainability as one of their main goals. Both restaurants and catering services use mainly local produce when preparing their delicious dishes. They also follow strict recycling standards and use environmentally friendly cleaning materials. Responsible conference-organizers who want to do their part to build a sustainable world need to con- sider the kind of energy sources that will be used to power their event. For them Iceland offers unique energy-sustainability. We encourage our customers and guests who use transport or travel to offset the carbon emission through the Icelandic Carbon fund (http://www.kolvidur.is). We offset all our own travel and shipping. At our offices in Harpa we recycle as much of our waste as possible and we educate all our staff about our environmental policies. Among the international conferences that have been held in Harpa are EUWIN 2011, EABCT 2011 and You are in Control as well as Eve Online Fanfest 2012.
