Harpa is one of Reykjavík's greatest and most dis nguished landmarks and can be considered an icon represen ng Iceland's capital. Located on the harbourfront, Harpa is a unique architectural achievement, with its glass façade designed by renowned ar st Ólafur Elíasson. Harpa is the vibrant residency of The Iceland Symphony Orchestra, The Icelandic Opera and Reykjavík Big Band as well as a wide variety of concerts from all musical genres that are presented throughout the year. Harpa has won mul ple awards including the European Union Price for Contemporary Architecture; Mies van der Rohe in 2013. Harpa was also selected as "One of the Greatest Concert Halls of the New Millennium" by Gramophone Magazine and "Best Conference Venue in Europe in 2016" by the Business Des na ons Magazine. Due to our unique loca on in the city centre, in a country situated midway between Europe and North-America, as well as our state-of-the art acous cs, Harpa has a racted numerous interna onal performers, including Bryan Ferry, Nile Rodgers, Pa Smith, Wynton Marsalis and Herbie Hancock to name only a few. We have also welcomed classical ar sts and orchestras that include German tenor Jonas Kaufmann, violinist and conductor Maxim Vengerov, conductor Gustavo Dudamel, the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the Berlin Philharmoniker and dance companies such as St. Petersburg Fes val Ballet and the San Francisco Ballet. We host an important part of the annual Iceland Airwaves music fes val featuring cultural icons such as Björk and Yoko Ono. Harpa is a flexible world class venue for conferences and mee ngs. Amongst the interna onal conferences held in Harpa are the Language Resources and Evalua on Conference, Intensive Care Medicine, Spirit of Humanity Forum, Nordic Council Mee ng and the annual Ar c Circle and Eve Online Fanfest. Harpa has also been chosen as the venue for mayor corporate events that have in some instances even taken over the whole building. A new Marrio Edi on hotel will open next door to Harpa in 2019 strengthening even further Harpa's posi on in the MICE market. It is our belief that Harpa is a place for great inspira on and ideas.
