ICE DAY This day focuses on the natural wonders of Iceland as well as the glaciers. Iceland is known for it´s glaciers and is home to the biggest glaciers in Europe. The Golden Circle includes some Iceland's most stunning sights. At Thingvellir National Park, where the American and Eurasian tectonic plates are pulling apart at a rate of a few centimetres per year the group can walk or even snorkel in the rift between the continents. The magnificent Gullfoss waterfall, where the river Hvítá tumbles into a crevice 32 m (105 ft.) deep, is a must see as well as seeing the hot spring Strokkur shoot a column of water up to 30 metres (98 ft.) into the air every 7-10 minutes – a thrilling experience that just never gets old. A snowmobile ride at Langjökull glacier will be the cherry on the top of an otherwise fun nature day in Iceland. The ice day can also be centred around an walking on ice or ice climbing adventures on Sólheimajökull glacier on the south shore of Iceland. Then the Golden Circle tour would be a part of the Fire day instead of the Ice day. DEPARTURE DAY/ REYKJAVÍK DAY The flights to North America leave in the afternoon so the last day is spent in Reykjavík, the world's most northerly capital, with more than one third of Iceland's population. Today Reykjavík is a modern city with a variety of restaurants, museums, galleries and theatres. The activities within the city are diverse ranging from museums to a walk by the city's salmon river which is outstanding proof that Reykjavík is a pollution free capital. The group can for example visit the small local design shops in the city centre where the group meets the designers and they tell the group about their design and inspirations. Or use the opportunity to go swimming in one of many outdoor swimming pools in Reykjavík which are heated with water from natural hot springs under the city. After an interesting day in Reykjavík the group heads to the airport driving a scenic route through the Lava field where the crew of Appollo 11 practised before the first moon landing. 3
