It´s good to be a mother and child in Iceland according to Save the Childrens annual Mothers' Index 2016. Iceland ranks number 3 out of 179 countries. The scores are based on mothers' and children's health, educational, economic and political status. Human rights are protected by the Icelandic cons tu on based on the principle to allow all persons to enjoy their human rights regardless of origin, na onality, skin colour, religious and poli cal beliefs, sex, sexual orienta on, age, financial situa on, heritage, disability, state of health or any other status. The most gender-equal country to date is Iceland. It has closed over 90% of its overall gender gap. Since at least 2015, Iceland has ranked number 1 in the World Economic Forum; Gender Gap Report. The performance is based on achieve- ment in improving gender equality in the area of educa on, poli cal par cipa on and women´s par cipa on in the labor force. Iceland ranks number 8 of total 167 countries in safety and security according to Legatum Prosperity Index 2023. Iceland ranks no.1 on the Global Peace Index 2024 (acutally sixteen years in a row) as well as being one of the friendliest na on by World Economic Forum.
