Ithro abandalag Reykjavikur (IBR)
or Reykjavik Sports Union is an
organiza on which was founded
on 31 August 1944. The union is a
part of the Na onal Olympic and
Sports Associa on (ISI) and acts as a
connec on between the City of
Reykjavik and sports clubs. The
union's goal is the for fica on and
development of sports in Reykjavik.
It is the country's largest district
associa on with approximately 76
sports clubs and approximately
41.000 registered members.

The Sport and Leisure Department
operates six swimming pools, sport
halls, the youth centre, a service
centre, two ski slopes in Blá öll and
Skálafell mountains, district-based ski
slopes, the Reykjavík Family Park and
Zoo in Laugardalur valley, summer
ac vi es for children in the sailing
club at Nauthólsvík and in Reykjavik
Family Park and Zoo.

thority for voluntary sports ac vi es
in Iceland, cf. the provisions of the
Icelandic Sports Act. As a na onal
associa on in Iceland, recognized by
the Interna onal Olympic Commi ee
(IOC) and under the umbrella of the
Olympic Movement, The Na onal
Olympic and Sports Associa on of
Iceland honors the Olympic Charter
and the World An -Doping Code
and to abide by the decisions of IOC
Sessions.
